Handel's Messiah ~ Date Night!

Last week the Darwin Symphony Orchestra performed Handel's Messiah at the Darwin Supreme Court.  We had been wanting to go see the Orchestra for awhile, but never had the opportunity.  So when I saw they were performing Handel's Messiah I really wanted to go.

We dropped the kids off at a friends house and went to dinner along the ocean.  My Bible Study ladies took me to this lovely restaurant a few weeks ago, and I just loved it and wanted to take Patrick there.  We got to watch the sunset over the ocean.  I love the sailboat out there.

After dinner we made our way to the Darwin Supreme Court.  I have never heard Handel's Messiah in it's entirety.  It was so moving when the Hallelujah Chorus began and everyone stood.  Did you know that's customary?

On March 23, 1743, The Messiah, written by George Frideric Handel (1685 – 1759) in 1741,
was performed for the 1st time in London, England. Present was the King of England.
The king was so moved by the singing of the “Hallelujah Chorus,” he spontaneously stood
to his feet and remained standing until the end of Handel’s masterpiece.
(And when the king stands up, EVERYBODY stands up.)
Ever since that day, it has been customary for the audience to stand
whenever the “Hallelujah Chorus” is sung.

Great job, Darwin Symphony Orchestra!!
I absolutely loved it.

And I absolutely love this guy!
