Last week we went with our homeschool group to tour the Parliament House.
Isn't it beautiful?!
The back of the building (below) has a beautiful fountain,
and overlooks the ocean...
We had a great tour guide.
All the kids playing in the fountain.
I loved the history of this building. In 1942 this is the place where the post office sat. Darwin was bombed on 19 February, 1942 (click on the link to read more). It has been called the Pearl Harbor of Australia. Construction for the Parliament House was completed in 1994. There is so much tradition and history in the construction of the building, you can read about it here if you're interested.
Another fun thing about our day, was that Parliament was in session. So we got to see them in action...which was kind of boring. Maybe it would be more interesting if I had lived here longer and knew what was going on! They put us in a sound proof room, where we could see and here everyone in the chamber, they could see us, but not hear us.
It was a fun day with our homeschool group. I'm working on the group's field trip in May. Looks like we're going to see our local news do the 5:30pm broadcast! How fun!
