Here in Australia, the children are heading back to school after a 6 week school holiday. This review has been a great way for my fourth grader to start the year with a refresher of his times tables. Times Tables the Fun Way are online lessons with animated songs and stories to learn times tables the fun way! Thanks, Times Alive, for letting us review these fun, online lessons!
My son working on a timed drill.
Times Tables the Fun Way teaches all the times tables 0 - 9. The lessons include fun songs, games, and quizzes. You only need a computer and internet to get started. You can use the program for several children (so long as they use the same computer).
As a mom, I felt it would've been great for him to do last year as he was initially learning his times tables. It has been a good refresher for him, and I know a few of the little rhymes will stick.
One of the drag and drop games.
As you can see in the photo, there is a progress report available. This is convenient for the parent/teacher to see what has been completed, and what needs to get done. It shows the student's progress, quiz scores, and dates when the work was completed. I also liked that it included the times for the timed drills, so I could see the progress being made. There is also the option to print the progress report.
This is a very mom/child-friendly program. My son found his way around pretty quickly. He could stop his lesson anywhere, and pick up at the same place the next day.
I will also add that he did find the songs a bit cheesy, and he would mute some of the music videos so he only had to read the words on the screen instead of hearing the music. He is almost 9 and is starting to enjoy more "big kid" things as he said. I think this would be a great program for those just starting to learn their times tables. It really is Times Tables the Fun Way.
A little snippet of the online program.
The initial set up cost of the online version is $6.95 and then it is $9.95/month. The online version can be used immediately after purchase. No downloads necessary. We used the online version, but you can purchase cds or books (which is what the program is based off of). Click here for me information.
