Obviously Australia doesn't celebrate Independence Day, otherwise known as the 4th of July, but the Northern Territory (where we live) celebrates Territory Day! July 1 was Territory Day and it's one of the few days you are allowed to purchase fireworks in the NT. Now, they don't just sell your normal fireworks, oh no! The day before Territory Day the fireworks go on sell, and you can buy the big stuff! We didn't buy any, we really had no need to because everyone else in the Top End spends all their own hard-earned money on fireworks and they all light up the sky! The fireworks were going off until the wee hours of the morning!
We went to a local park and watched the fireworks. We had our friend's two boys (while they were in the ER with one of their other boys!), and got to watch an amazing fireworks display. They were going off all around us. No matter which way we looked we could see fireworks!
I love fireworks, and was a bit disappointed to be missing this American holiday. What an amazing God I serve to give me this little {huge} blessing!
Then on the 4th of July an American pastor nearby invited Patrick to speak for their mid-week service and they had a fun 4th of July themed evening! The pastor's wife had her house all decorated in America theme, and the Australians loved it! I even got to make my traditional 4th of July dessert - a strawberry/blueberry trifle.
I'm so thankful for the life God has given us here in the Northern Territory. He is too good to me!
