Tucumcari, New Mexico

We made it safely to Ganado, Arizona (on the Navajo Nation).   Our second night of traveling we stayed in Tucumcari, NM.  The last time we drove to Arizona we drove through this town.  It reminded us of Radiator Springs from the Disney Car's movie.  It's right along Old Route 66.
We stayed here - Historic Route 66 Motel. What an awesome place!  We will definitely stay here again.  In fact, we're thinking of staying here on the way home.  It has a 70's feel to it.  The wood paneling walls, the retro lamps, the turquoise chair.  I loved it all.  We slept great. AND it was clean (you'd be surprised at some of the hotels we've stayed at)!

Tucumcari probably has some great history to it.  There is a museum in the town, maybe on our way home we'll stop in and see it.  Here are some closed up shops.

There were some homes in the town that looked really nice, but on the back streets some of the homes looked like this...
Get your kix on route 66.
I'm a very nostalgic person, which is probably why I like this area, but I think any true American would love it too.  If you're ever in the area we highly recommend at least driving through Tucumcari, New Mexico.

Thank you for the recommendation. We'll be in Tucumcari tonight, and take your advice on a motel.
