I've been in a motivational rut lately. Maybe its because school is over, maybe its the early lazy summer days, or maybe its just plain laziness.
I'm sure I'm not the only mom out there who gets tired of cleaning her house. I know my family loves and appreciates me, but sometimes being a mother is the most unappreciated and unthanked position out there.
I've been feeling really guilty about it lately. I don't live in a huge house. It has 5 small rooms: living/dining room, kitchen, kid's room, our room, and a bathroom. How hard is it to keep a tiny 5 bedroom log cabin clean? Very!
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my home. I feel so blessed to be living here. It may not look like much, but I really like it. I just get tired of cleaning up the same messes everyday. I've gotten to the point where I say, "Why bother vacuuming, when it will need it again tomorrow" or "Why pick up those toys, they'll just be thrown all over the floor again".
Now, you may think I let my home turn into a pigsty...well, it was pretty close. Although I kept things picked up, I gave up on dusting, vacuuming everyday, dusting cobwebs, and a few other things.
Well, I realized Friday night that I had to do something. I woke up Saturday with some mojo, and then after reading this post I was determined to conquer my home.
And conquer my home I did! I started with my living room...I picked-up, dusted, cleaned windows, swept and mopped the floor.
Hmmmm....still had some energy, so I moved onto the bathroom...I cleaned the toilet and the sink, then swept and mopped the floor.
What's that? Still more energy? Ahhh...onto the kitchen! I did the dishes, cleaned the counters, straightened up the cabinets, then swept and mopped the floor.
Then, you guessed it, onto my bedroom. I cleaned, organized, and dusted my desk (a job I detest), dusted my dresser, straightened up the rest, and then vacuumed!!
I forgot to mention that during all this, I also did 3 loads of laundry! Oh yeah!
The only room left was the kids, so I walked in there and would love to tell you I tackled that room as well, but I got the kids ready and we went out to enjoy the rest of the beautiful day the Lord provided.
After enjoying the rest of the day, I put a roast in the crock pot, then woke up at 6am to put in the vegetables. We came home after church to a yummy meal.
I'm not sure where my burst of energy came from, but I'm thankful for it...even if the floors already have mud on them, and there's grass in the kitchen.
Getting ready for bed, my hubby mentioned the house looked nice. He said, "Oh, did you get that big cobweb in the kitchen?" Mine response "Ugghhh, no!" How could I miss that? Guess what? I still haven't cleaned it up yet!
I will leave you with one more photo of my little cabin in the woods...
